Eileen Gu an American Born who Competes for China in Winter Olymics

American, Skier, Daughter.

Eileen Gu is an 18 year old who is competing at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

She was born in San Francisco in 2003 but has been competing for China since 2019. She has received hate for not competing for the US but skis for China to be a role model for young girls as her mother is from China.

“I am proud of my heritage, and equally proud of my American upbringings,” Gu wrote. “The opportunity to help inspire millions of young people where my mom was born, during the 2022 Beijing Winter Games is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to help promote the sport I love.”

She has been skiing since she could remember. She was three when her mom enrolled her in lessons at Lake Tahoe and from there it just seemed to click.

“The venue is fantastic,” Gu said. “I mean, look around, there’s no snow anywhere else. And somehow when you’re skiing on this job, you feel like you’re on a glacier somewhere.

Eileen’s parents could not be prouder of her for competing and winning the gold. She especially has made her mother proud by repenting her home country.

Eileen Gu says, “Mom, executive call here,” she recalled saying. “Vetoed. I am going to make the 16, and you are going to deal with it.”
