Snapchat is the Worst Social Media App

As a society, we should stop using Snapchat as a way to communicate.

Snapchat is a social media app that’s popular among middle & high schoolers. Instead of texting or calling someone, the point of Snapchat is to send your friends photos or videos of yourself with (optional) text added to further add to your conversations. There’s also a feature on the app in which you can post “story” photos for your friends to see.

In theory, the app sounds like a fun way to talk to your friends. However, this app is pointless.

“It literally feels so exhausting,” says TikTok user @joyyy.prk. “The fact that I constantly need to open snaps gets me so tired.”

Snapchat was designed with the intention of being able to keep up with your friends consistently. However, people often feel this unneeded pressure to keep up with everyone, all the time. A perfect example of this is Snapchat streaks.

A “streak” on Snapchat is a feature on the app that shows the number of days in a row that you’ve been consistently snapping at someone. Streaks are often the only reason that certain people communicate on Snapchat.

Personally, I send every single person (that I’m friends with on Snapchat) a full-face photo of myself every time we are snapping. But, more often than not, I will receive a black screen, ceiling picture, or forehead in response.

This could just be because I’m talking to the wrong people. But still. Come on.

“I like Snapchat because it’s easier to talk to people when you don’t have to talk to them,” says student Courtney DiAngelo.

That doesn’t make much sense to me. But it’s okay to be wrong sometimes! Everybody makes mistakes.
